As a freelance in-house counsel, with more than 13 years of experience, I’ve been in your position. I know what it’s like to wish for extra help while (frustratingly) being unable to justify adding another lawyer to the team’s headcount.
I act as your additional in-house counsel on an outsourced basis, at a scale and price that works for you.
I can work on-demand, on a part-time contract or on a retainer basis. I can do time costing, if that’s the way you like to work, but I would much rather agree to a fixed fee so neither of us is watching the clock.
My experience allows me to identify legal risks in day-to-day business operations and give legal advice in a format that is easily understood by both management and employees. I’ll quickly get up to speed with your needs and slot into your existing team. My collaborative approach means we’ll achieve the best outcome in a timeframe we’re both comfortable with.
As an in-house generalist I can assist with:
Commercial contracts: drafting, reviewing, negotiating and interpreting
Reviewing tender documentation and commercial pitches
Reviewing new product and service offerings
Acting as legal project manager, coordinating work with your company’s other consultants or advisers, and reporting back to management
Preparing and reviewing regulatory applications, including licence applications
Advising on regulatory requirements and guidance applicable to your entity (e.g. ASIC, APRA)
Re-drafting product/client terms and conditions in plain English
Drafting/reviewing corporate policies and procedures
Preparing for and assisting with the conduct of periodic regulatory reviews
Implementing review and remediation plans (or recommendations for change) issued by a regulator
Researching legal issues applicable to your business.
When you work with me, rather than outsourcing to an external firm or relying on a legal marketplace platform, we have a better opportunity to build a direct connection. I see this opportunity as the real value of working with a freelance in-house counsel. You get all the benefits of the alternative model of legal services – cost-effectiveness, transparency, flexibility and more – without sacrificing the personal connection on which great relationships are built.
“We have found working with Leigh to be very easy. She gets the commercial realities of being in business and offers useful, plain English legal advice on our contracts and other legal issues that come up from time to time. She is available when needed and has the ideal mix of legal skills and understanding of our business to work very quickly.
After working with many others in her field, we’re very glad to have Leigh representing our team and would highly recommend her. ”
